The Oprah Tote

The Oprah Tote

"THE OPRAH" is the newest addition in our #BOSSLADIES series of handmade totes. The #BOSSLADIES brand pays homage to the most formidable female icons of our time.

Our newest tote recognizes Oprah Winfrey, a woman whose name is synonymous with both compassion and power. Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood. She began her career working in local media, she was both the youngest news anchor and the first black female news anchor at Nashville's WLAC-TV. Six years later, she relocated to Chicago to host WLS-TV's low-rated half-hour morning talk show, AM Chicago. Within months after Winfrey took over, the show went from last place in the ratings to overtaking Donahue as the highest-rated talk show in Chicago, a show that eventually became the number one talk show in television.

Additionaly, Winfrey received and Oscar nomination for her work in the film The Color Purple, and after leaving her highly rated TV show, She started her network geared towards women, OWN. Winfrey has co-authored five books, and started O, The Oprah Magazine from 2004 to 2008. She has also published a magazine called O At Home. In 2002, Fortune called O, the Oprah Magazine the most successful start-up ever in the industry. Forbes' list of The World's Billionaires has listed Winfrey as the world's only black billionaire from 2004 to 2006 and as the first black woman billionaire in the world, making her the richest self-made woman in America. Of late, Oprah has been rumored to be considering a presidential run in 2020, and recently ignited a movement after she declared, "a new day is on the horizon," while receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award. She was the first woman of color to receive the honor. Winfrey was called "arguably the world's most powerful woman" by CNN and making her the perfect companion to the rest of the women in the #BOSSLADIES family.

We care about the environment so these reusable totes are made from recycled cotton which complies with all fair wage and fair labor standards.  We will continue to strive to create a quality product that combines fashion and function while celebrating the strong women who define the phrase "boss."
