I Want To Go There: Roman and Williams Flagship SoHo Store
Without question, my favorite design team is Roman and Williams. I read their book Things We Made at least once a week and even though the duo's style is much more dramatic than mine, I glean so much inspiration from their work. Perhaps it's because they got their start as set designers, (my actual dream job) but what I love most about their designs is that each of their projects always feels so complete. Every hotel, restaurant, or home is so unique and on their own they really tell a story. I look at a lot of projects and think that there can often be something added, or in many cases taken away, but Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch (the duo behind Roman and Williams) always seem to get it right. Every detail is as it should be and I really could spend all day in one of their well designed hotels or restaurants... and have!
This is why I was beyond excited to see that Standefer and Alesch have opened a flagship store, and it's in New York! Once I saw these images from the interior of the 7000 square foot shop, I pretty much spent the night texting all my local friends asking when we can go. My uber cool SIL has already been and she said there are definitely some kinks to be worked out, but the store itself is really lovely. Part furniture showroom, flower mart, cafe, and bookstore, Roman and Williams Guild is a one stop design shop and it's one that I cannot get to fast enough. Below you will find a little glimpse of what can be found behind those beautiful blue doors. (hint... more blue!)
