Thomas Campbell x Nike

I never thought I would be one of those people who would have waited in line overnight for a sneaker release, nor did I ever think I would scour the internet for hours looking for a new pair of kicks. Yet, there I was yesterday, wishing we were back home so I could camp out at Nike headquarters, but instead I found myself spending hours on the internet considering (just considering) spending 3, 4 or 5 times the price tag just to get my hands on a pair of Nike's newest release which is a collaboration with the famed Thomas Campbell. Alas, I am still empty handed. I guess that's just how it goes with the modern day sneaker game.

Thomas Campbell, is a surf / skate artist that my husband and I have followed for decades. When we first met, we used to watch his eclectic surf films over and over (and over) and while my husband definitely liked them more than I did, I really connected with his artwork. I can't tell you how many times over the course of our marriage we have discussed investing in an original piece of his art but we could never actually pull the trigger.

Imagine my elation when I read a few months ago that he was doing a very limited sneaker release with Nike. Even though it wouldn't be an original, I could get my hands on a piece of his artwork and even better, this piece was wearable! So, like every good sneaker collector I set my alarm for release day and immediately went to Nike's site. Every time I tried to add the shoe to my cart I got locked out and then received the big sold out sign. Immediately they were popping up on ebay for twice the price and I'm kicking myself (no pun intended) for not grabbing them then.

Alas I have no shoes and the dream of owning a Campbell continues. There is no happy ending to this blog post but at least it allows me one more look at what is quite possibly the coolest sneaker on earth. I know it's a long shot but if any of you happen to come across these babies in a men's size 4, please buy them I am I will immediately send payment. Hey, it is the internet after all...stranger things have happened! Xx
