I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it took the newest issue of Architectural Digest for me to become aware of MASS MoCA, a contemporary-art museum located in our backyard of North Adams, Mass. A town that is only 2.5 hours away from downtown Boston.
Mass MoCA is an exhibition space that spans nearly 16 acres and is housed in a large industrial complex. The museum launched in 1999, but this May they will be expanding and a new 130,000 square foot wing will be opening, which is set to host long term exhibitions featuring works from established contemporary artists. The space looks really incredible and I'm now itching to take the boys up to see the museum and the new wing when it opens.
For those of you who are not local to the area, there is a 48 room boutique hotel Tourists, that will be opening in June. The hotel is designed by Reed Hilderbrand and the hotel itself boasts it's own suspension bridge which leads to 30 acres of trails. It looks like it's going to be a pretty unique space and I can't think of a better weekend to spend with the family. Some art, some outdoor time, a night away from home in a cool hotel... North Adams you are calling my name!
Here is a peek from a few exhibitions that are currently on display at Mass MoCA, and you can view all current exhibitions here. Xx
