Before we left, I had begun working on a big project in Cape Cod, which involves updating my best friend's beach house. The house itself is a little more on the traditional side, so I'm designing the space in that vein but I'm also adding in some fun bohemian elements to make the space feel fresh and new. This is a dream project for me for so many reasons, but of course working so closely with someone you love always makes the job more fun!
Since we've stated designing the home, I've had nothing but beach houses on the brain and this is why I was so excited to see this home featured in the new issue of Domino magazine. Designed by Sarah Gilbane for her family, this home is the perfect mix of traditional and bohemian and I really just love how whimsical the design of the home feels. Nothing is too serious and this seems like a home that you would want to spend time in. Whether it's having a drink by the fire, or playing cards in the adorable kitchen, I could see spending a weekend here with friends and if my best friend's house ends up with that same feel, I will absolutely consider it to be a success!
For most people their beach house is a getaway from their everyday lives and I think it's so important to make your second home feel like a vacation destination, if you are lucky enough to have one. That way you instantly feel like you are away from it all the minute you walk through the front door, in the same way that the weight just falls off of you when you enter a hotel lobby. Instant relaxation!
While reading the story, it was mentioned that Gilbane has also designed a home for her best friend which happens to be located on the same property and, truly, I can't imagine a better way to spend a summer. Below you can see more of this incredible property, and I've come up with a few suggestions on how to get this look in your own space! Xx
