That House!!! Mike D's Malibu Compound
I spend a lot of time looking at homes for this blog. Okay, truthfully I spend a lot of time looking at homes and thank goodness I have this blog so I can justify my constant desire to peek behind people's closed doors.
There are so many elements that I love in the homes that I feature here (and obsess over via Pinterest) but if I was given the chance to move into only ONE home, and not change a thing, I can say with 100 percent conviction that the home I would choose would be the Brooklyn property that is lived in (and designed by) Mike D of the Beastie Boys. Strike that- that is the home that I would have chosen and then I would have been so disappointed after I received the newest installment from Architectural Digest and saw his newly renovated Malibu compound because for me, this home is everything I've ever wanted (and so, so much more).
I know I've said this before, but I truly, madly, deeply LOVE this house. I feel like Mike just gets me and each of his properties are chalked full of everything I want for my own home (blue everywhere, painted doors, wood, bright colors, a casual but elegant feel, whimsey) and I can honestly say that this house is the house of my dreams. The best thing about Mike's properties is that they are always done with a modest budget in mind and he does a great job keeping the entire home cohesive and original. One room really blends into the next and if you look closely, there are a lot of elements from his Brooklyn home in this space and while they aren't twins, they are clearly sisters. Perfect, beautiful, and fun sisters.
Just take a look while I dry my eyes (the tears just fall when I look at these images)!
Really, what can I say. If you are like me and pretty much only want a home with the color blue in it than you too know how this property speaks to my soul. I've been trying to stray from my beloved color in the Costa house but after seeing this I have to ask why? We have so many of the same elements going in with the white walls, concrete flooring and wood detail and here I've been trying everything to keep my baby blues out and now I'm thinking that may be a mistake. The blue adds so much to this space and I love how the cobalt hue is carried from room to room and even to the exterior. This house seems like it would just be fun to be in, and at the end of the day that is what I want people to feel when they enter your home!
Mike D you have done it again! I can only hope this family keeps renovating properties but if you had two homes that look like his do, why would you? When you've hit perfection, there is no where else to go! Xx
