The design for the Costa house is coming along and (fingers crossed) we seem to be coming in under or at budget. Since we shrunk the house, and because I was able to find my tile and furnishings in country, I feel like I may have a little wiggle room to get one splurge item for the home. It's not that the house necessarily needs anything high end, it is a beach house after all, but it would be nice to have something that is the "star" in our sea of wood, concrete and white. It would be amazing if that one item were something that could fill an entire room, age well, ship well, and would be something useful. Something like a sofa, perhaps?
You all see where this is going right?
Yes, I have fallen in love with a sofa for the Costa house and really, it's not just any sofa... it's the PERFECT sofa for this house and just the perfect sofa in general. From the title of this post you can tell I'm talking about the iconic Mah Jong sofa in Missoni fabric from Roche Bobois and when I say I'm in love with this piece, please know that that doesn't even begin to describe how the level of emotion that I feel for this inanimate object. I saw it in person today (after obsessing all weekend) and all I can say is that it's even more amazing than I had dreamed and if there is any wiggle room in our budget, this sofa absolutely has to be in our home. Come to think of it, do I really need both my kidneys? ;)
Over the weekend I showed this to my husband and he surprisingly he really liked the idea of it (as much as someone can love an expensive piece of furniture) and admitted that it would be perfect for the space and for exactly what we'd want to use it for... to plop down and read! The most amazing thing is that it's really just made up of a ton of cushions so you can configure it in so many different ways and you can mix a number of velvets with the Missoni fabric to get a sectional that is a little more reasonable. I love that it is completely custom, which means I could pick from all the different patterns and colors and create a real one of a kind piece.
Listen, I'm 100% sold. So much so that we really took another look at the living room with my dad over the weekend and decided to expand it more into the kitchen. This is ALL we would need in that room and it's visible from the entire second floor, kitchen, and outdoor area so if we wanted to make a statement in the home, this would really be the way to do it. I'm going to go forward with the idea that we will use this piece and try not to be too crushed if we can't swing it in the end. The pieces themselves are super light and will ship well so this may be something that we do in pieces but hopefully we can have all it from the beginning.
It's not lost on me that this sofa is pretty much what bohemian dreams are made of and most certainly the colors that I dream in. The way that you can mix and match everything is so fun, and you can bet it will be something that I take my time with. We have some time to get this all figured out, and nothing will be ordered this month, but you can bet that until that day that house is built, this will continue to be my most wanted item for our home!
