Last week the most amazing, incredible, and mindblowing thing happened- our kids abandoned us.
Okay, it's not like they packed our bags and ran away (thank goodness) but on Tuesday morning they did board a plane with their grandparents, leaving us with 96 kid-free hours. Sure, we've left them before, which has been fine with everyone... but this time left left us and it really was AMAZING. Obviously we missed them, but this was the first time in almost 9 (!!!) years that we have had our house to ourselves and all I can say is that it was heavenly.
So, what did we do?
Well. My husband had to work for the first part of the week and since the kids weren't here I figured it was a better time than any to sneak down to the cape to visit my dearest girlfriends. I stayed with my best friend and somehow we packed a week's worth of activities into just two short days.
After too short of a trip I raced back to town to meet my husband for an early diner and (wait for it) a night at home, ALONE. No bedtime fights, no teeth brushing, no stories, no dishes to do and mouths to clean. Nope. Just two adults going to dinner and back home and it was as amazing as it sounds. We ventured out to the newest restaurant in our neighborhood, Little Donkey and had one of the best meals of our lives. We've decided we have to try it again to make sure it really was that good because I have to admit the thought of having the house to ourselves certainly had us flying high.
On Friday, we flew down to get the boys and have a mini family reunion with my husband's side of the family. Luckily, the boys were as happy to see us as we were them and we spent the weekend doing all the things that you do on the Eastern Shore. We fished, ate crabs, jumped off bridges, swam in the river, went tubing and shot bb gun's and bow and arrows. In short, we relived my husband's childhood with his children and it was awesome.
And now we are all back home. Well, for another 13 hours or so. Tomorrow, we are heading to my parent's house in California and the boys and I are gearing up for another two weeks at Legoland. For now, we are all back together and the week that was has become the week that was. As we were leaving the kids said that next year they want to spend an extra week at their grandparents without us. My husband and I looked directly at each other after hearing this and at the same time said... absolutely!!! Xx
