I'm back from NYC and I can't even begin to tell you what a fabulous trip it was. We ate (a lot), we drank (a lot) and of course, we shopped. Over the years I've found that our shopping time is best spent at stores that I can't access here in Boston (or online) and for this trip the one place that was topping my list was the newly opened Calliope in the West Village.
I've followed owner Caroline Ventura on Instagram for years and I guess you could say I'm a bit of a "fan girl." She has great style when it comes to clothing and interiors and I knew that so many of the shop's offerings were going to be perfect for the Costa house. All I can say is that this store did not disappoint!!! I could have bought up their entire inventory if it wasn't for the fact that I would have then had to find a way to get it to Boston and then to Central America. A fact my sister kept reminding me of at every turn. (Thank you, Holly!)
I tried to restrain myself and initially purchased one of these washable (!!!!) rugs from local artist Caroline Z. Hurley. By the time I got home I was really kicking myself for not getting a second, and as luck would have it my sister-in-law had also been eager to visit the store, so the next day I went back for another! I know they are are going to be amazing in the house and yes, I can actually get them down there. It took everything in me not to also get this book, but I do actually have some self control. Okay, that and the fact that there is no way I could lug it around the city for the rest of the afternoon.
For those of you who live in / will be in NYC, I can't say enough about this beautiful shop. It's perfectly curated, full of handcrafted and truly unique wares and I will be back- and soon! For those of you who love a little shop porn as much as I do, here is a little glimpse of the magic that is Calliope. It's not the Empire State Building, but let me just say, if you are in the city... this is a real must see. (We followed our visit with drinks at the Spotted Pig. Highly recommended!) Xx
