Thanksgiving is only three weeks away (!!!) which means that those holiday parties are just around the corner. As I mentioned last year, I don't usually buy new outfits for specific events, instead I typically purchase a piece or two with little seasonal flair that I can incorporate into my existing wardrobe. This helps to avoid any last minute dashes to department stores, (where you know you are going to end up empty handed- hello pressure!) and it also helps to keep your wardrobe feeling fresh, allowing you to reuse pieces from last year in new ways.
I often wear the same thing year after year, even to Christmas parties, and if there is one thing I have learned during my almost 40 years on this planet it's that no one really remembers what you wore the year before- and if they do they don't actually care! (This is coming from the girl who wore the same prom dress three years in a row!!!) This year we will actually be spending the the majority of December in Costa Rica, so my holiday parties will consist of margaritas with the family, BUT if we were in town I can tell you with absolute certainty that I would be attending every party in head to toe velvet just like the enviable Poppy above. I've already got a pair of velvet pants and trust me when I say they have been waiting their entire life to be paired with an emerald green velvet blazer. (Sigh)
I'm pretty sure that jewel toned velvet will go down as THE trend of the Fall 2016 season and I have to say, I ain't mad at that. From blazers, to heels, to sneakers, and even jeans, velvet is everywhere which is great news because it's also the perfect thing to wear when the holidays roll around. Dressed up or dressed down, there is a little velvet for everyone and I'm all in. If I could find a way to justify it, I would most definitely wear a velvet green tuxedo for the rest of my life, and trust me when I say that those velvet covered booties, which are being carried by so many designers, won't be going out of style any time soon. In fact, I think this is just the beginning of the velvet revolution and if these inspiration images don't prove the case for velvet, I'm not quite sure what will. Below, I've also rounded up my favorite pieces that are available this season, and yes, even that green velvet blazer from above is in there. (Sigh again)
I still can't even fathom that we are already in November, but 'tis the season and the holidays are coming. Soon those invitations are going to start rolling in, whether we are ready or not! Xx
