Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and interior design. Hope you have a nice stay!

Deck The Halls... With Garland!

Deck The Halls... With Garland!

I had to make a quick stop at Trader Joe's yesterday and outside the store I saw that they had a huge selection of evergreen and pine garland that was actually incredibly affordable and beautiful! We've always had a tree and a few wreaths in our home for the holidays, but I have to say that I'm loving the idea of bringing in some garland to give the house more of an organic feel. Right now I'm really throwing myself into the holiday spirit, most to counter to my sadness and fear fear the election, and I'm trying to think of ways to bring in some of the feeling of the season without the commercialism that inevitably follows. I'm thinking that it would be really fun to do some over the top projects with the boys while they are home for Thanksgiving break and this year I'd really like bring them in on the decorating of our home for the holidays. We have so many whimsical Christmas items (i.e. stuff kids like) but we don't have a ton of greenery and I'd love to see the house covered in garland and after seeing these inspiration images I'm pretty sure you will too.

Now, the one issue is that we have is that we don't have a fireplace. This would be the obvious choice for some garland and can I just say that if you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, than you should absolutely take a cue from these two homes and get some up stat.

Okay, so what do us non-fireplace owners do? Tie it to the stairs. Talk about instant warmth and holiday cheer.

No stairs? No problem. Garland looks amazing when hung over a door and right now I'm thinking that this is the route I'm going to go in our living room. I love the idea of stringing lights through and how cute would it be with all those adorable holiday cards clipped to it?

If falling needles aren't your thing (this is a battle I gave up a few years ago) then how about some pinecone garland? This is perfect for decorating for Thanksgiving and for most of us all you have to do is go to the nearest park and collect a few pine cones. Simply tie with twine, hang and viola, you have a seasonal and budget friendly decoration that takes absolutely no time at all.

I found a garland making tutorial here and for those of you who are looking for something reusable, I found this great faux garland here and here

"Tis the season my friends. This year more than any before, I'm all in. Xx
